Neither Gale nor I understand the caption. Can you spell it out more clearly? Thanks.

Hello John:

I am not exactly sure what you are referring to.

Selena is the children's minister at the church we attended. She is a family friend and as close in real life to the character Annette played in the Spin and Marty stories on The Mickey Mouse Show as anyone we've ever met. In other words, a really good egg.

As Paul Stookey points out, a lot of popular music today is mean-spirited and I don't want to do that. There are artists very popular in Americana who write about the guy who gets drunk, smashes up the double-wide, beats the wife then finds religion and turns good. I won't go there. It's fake and the people who perform that stuff go back to their comfortable upper class homes in Nashville, watch Hoarders, and make up more "music for the common man". It's fake.

I prefer to "paint pretty" these days. I've written my share of acidic socially relevant songs. Right now, I prefer daVinci's Mona Lisa, a painting he never delivered but kept with him for years because it was beautiful. It isn't about a relationship with the subject. It is about being honest in the song. She really is what those lyrics describe. So I think that as valid a subject as Who Got Drunk and Screwed You Know Who Last Saturday night.

I'm back to jazz these days because that is where the learning is. I really don't want to write a song or the music that is G Gsus for three minutes with a Faulknerean lyric. I plan to do more and explore more modern jazz say, quartals and quintals and lydian mode, oh my. Then I'll do something else, but if I am not learning, I might as well quit.

Be well, old friend. Best to Gale.

I forgot: she is a cat person who regularly adopts and cares for cats, and goes to Disney World every year without fail and would live there if she could. She and The Mouse are soul mates.
